ELTA turismo LGBTQ+ in Europa

2 Febbraio, 2026 Published in Travel

During these days, with the imminent official opening of the Olympics in sight, there’s been a lot of talk about tourism. It’s a sector that moves enormous flows and must take into account a myriad of facets. LGBTQ+ tourism plays a key role. ELTA (European LGBTQ+ Travel Alliance AISBL) is a Brussels-based association that aims to attract LGBTQ+ tourism to Europe. Collaboration between members and industry operators is crucial, as is raising awareness among European institutions and industry bodies to make hospitality inclusive.

This year, we reached the third edition of the European LGBTQ+ Tourism Summit. The event was held in Milan and was sponsored by the European Parliament, the IGLTA Foundation, and Federturismo Confindustria, with the support of Airbnb, Serravalle Designer Outlet, the Greek National Tourism Organization, BWH Hotels Italy & South-East Europe, and Queervadis, and in collaboration with GNetwork360 and EGLCC – European LGBTIQ Chamber of Commerce. Alessandro Cecchi Paone, LGBTQ+ Tourism Ambassador, was present at the opening of the event.

During the evening, the QPrize awards were presented, the first Italian recognitions for tourism businesses that have distinguished themselves for their support of inclusion and sustainability. The winning destination was Spain, which has promoted inclusive tourism and trained industry professionals in this direction. Blanca Perez-Sauquillo Lopez, director of the Spanish Tourism Board, accepted the award. The Splendido Hotel in Taormina, the San Domenico Palace, was recognized for its active participation in numerous LGBTQ+ events, attracting members of the community throughout Sicily. UnaHotels Decò stood out for its numerous targeted marketing initiatives and for being one of the first in Italy to obtain Queervadis certification.
Julia Virginia D’Angelantonio of Il Post was able to tell the story of LGBTQ+ tourism in Italy better than any other foreign newspaper. Among Italians, the award went to Pasquale Quaranta of La Stampa, the first Italian diversity editor. Federturismo Confindustria has promoted initiatives aimed at supporting social inclusion and, together with Costa Crociere and Delta Air Lines, won the important prize.
