There are places where history, hospitality, well-being, warmth, and gastronomy come together to transform a stay into a memorable experience. One such place is Casiglio Castle, originally a military outpost, transformed over the centuries without losing its historic character. Cardinal Beltramino restored it to its former splendor because he felt a special connection to this place. In the 15th century, it was expanded and the upper floor frescoed, after which it underwent various changes until becoming a noble residence. Today, after careful restoration, every detail shines, making it an extraordinary place of welcome. Each suite has its own unique features, making it special; here, everyone can find their perfect setting. Centuries-old stone, fireplaces, and exposed beams create a unique atmosphere. For those seeking something more contemporary, there’s the option of the beautiful Villa Elena.
The lush garden greets me with a special welcome drink, a glass of sparkling wine to begin my immersion in the splendor of this location. Then, the restaurant on the terrace overlooking the pool delights the palate with expertly prepared dishes. Contemporary cuisine pays attention to the finest ingredients. For an appetizer, you can choose the PATANEGRA (aged 36 months), known as “de bellota,” the only true Patanegra made from 100% purebred Iberian pigs, free-range and acorn-fed in the Dehesas, or the celeriac roast beef with balsamic vinegar, gratinated zucchini flowers, Taleggio cheese, and ricotta. A tip? Ask for the daily specials; you’ll find some interesting options.
Ascend the tower and I find myself in a beautiful suite with a fireplace and large windows offering a privileged view of the castle and the garden. A bottle of Ca Del Bosco welcomes me, but I prefer to save that for another moment. I lie down on the large double bed, allowing myself a few moments of relaxation. Then I wrap myself in my soft bathrobe and head down to the spa. I entrust myself to the expert hands of the masseuse for a relaxing treatment, then I enjoy the wellness center, featuring two Turkish baths, two Finnish saunas, and a Water Paradise shower for body purification and regeneration. The salt room promotes cleansing of the skin and body. I settle into the comfortable designer loungers and then immerse myself in the crystal-clear heated pool. As I swim, the glass doors open and I find myself outside, admiring a breathtaking view of the park. It’s time to return to my room to get ready for the evening.
The elevator takes me to the cellar, where a selection of over 700 labels satisfies the sight and taste buds of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The expert sommelier leads me through a captivating tour, concluding with a vertical tasting of three labels accompanied by tantalizing finger foods. Intoxicated by the aromas that have tickled my palate, I take a seat in the dining room of the Le Cru restaurant, surrounded by thick stone walls and antique paintings. Sitting by the fireplace, I savor the authentic flavors and inebriating aromas, accompanied by interesting bottles of wine. We begin with a selection of appetizers featuring the fine bubbles of La Scolca, followed by a RISOTTO “VALTELLINA IN DOLCE CONTRASTO”: Campo dell’Oste rice from the Isos selection, Valtellina blue cheese, saffron, strawberry grapes, and panettone brittle. The wine? A 2025 Lugana “I Frati” from Cà dei Frati. At the end of dinner, I headed to the bar where the bar manager led me in a fascinating tale featuring the cocktails and house gin. The late hour prompted me to return to my splendid room and enjoy a sweet sleep.
The morning greets me with a beautiful view, which I admire from my chaise longue. I descend for breakfast and then let myself be transported to another dimension thanks to a meditation session. In the water room, the ancestral sound of Tibetan bells and gongs resonates, touching the chords of my soul. The return to reality is gradual, and I return to my room feeling light and happy. A final lunch in the garden and then I return to the city, enriched and fulfilled.
