Una breve visita ad Ancona…

Scendendo verso Sud ho fatto tappa ad Ancona, una città che ci regala alcuni angoli molto carini. Per prima cosa sono salita sul Guasco sul quale si erge il Duomo, in stile romanico; da qui si gode una bella vista sul porto e sul golfo. La facciata è in pietra bianca del monte Conero e ha alla base due leoni in marmo rosso che stringono tra gli artigli, l’uno un serpente e l’altro un agnello. Un tempo i Dori siracusani vi eressero un tempio dedicato ad Afrodite. La città è ricca di resti romani, tra i quali, proprio sotto il Guasco, si può ammirare l’arco di Traiano. Nel centro si trova la fontana del Calamo composta da tredici bocche sormontate da 12 mascheroni bronzei e uno in pietra sopra il quale c’è il bassorilievo del Cavaliere all’assalto, emblema della città di Ancona. La parte in basso serviva per fare abbeverare gli animali.

Sul lungo mare si erge maestoso ed elegante il Monumento ai Caduti della Prima guerra mondiale realizzato interamente in pietra d’Istria. Nel fregio i versi di Giacomo Leopardi: “Beatissimi voi, Ch’offriste il petto alle nemiche lance Per amor di costei ch’al Sol vi diede”. Proprio da qui inizia una scalinata con il belvedere dedicato a Virna Lisiche porta alla spiaggia del Passetto.

Going to the south of Italy I stopped in Ancona, a city that gives us some very nice corners. First I went to the Guasco hill on which there is the Duomo, in Romanesque style; from here we can enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor and the gulf. The façade is in white stone of Mount Conero and on its base there are two red marble lions that squeeze between the claws a snake and a lamb. At one time the Syracusan Dorians erected here a temple dedicated to Aphrodite. The city is rich in Roman remains, among which, just below the Guasco, there is the arch of Trajan. In the center of the city there is the Calamo fountain composed of thirteen mouths surmounted by 12 bronze masks and one in stone above which there is the bas-relief of the Knight to the assault, emblem of the city of Ancona. The lower part was used to water the animals. On the seafront stands the majestic and elegant Monument dedicated to the heroes of the First World War made entirely of Istrian stone. In the friezethere is the verses of Giacomo Leopardi: “Blessed are you, Who offered your breast to the enemy spears For the love of these who gave you to the Sol”. From here begins a staircase with the belvedere dedicated to Virna Lisiche that leads to the Passetto beach.
