Torino e Baratti & Milano

Torino è una città imponente i cui edifici e strade sembrano pò sonnecchiare sotto la polvere del tempo. Ci sono angoli e luoghi che brillano rispetto agli altri suggerendo un passato fastoso che deve essere rispolverato. Sotto i portici di Piazza Castello troviamo una caffetteria storica, Baratti & Milano, fu fondata nel 1858 da due lungimiranti confettieri canavesani, ma fu solo nel 1974 che si spostarono dove permane ancora oggi. Il Ministro della Real Casa concesse l’uso del Regio Stemma e riconobbe a Baratti e Milano la funzione di “Provveditori di S.M. il Re d’Italia e dei Reali Principi” e concesse la facoltà di utilizzare nell’insegna del negozio lo Stemma del Sovrano, perfino il Principe Amedeo di Savoia, Duca d’Aosta, e Alfonso XII di Spagna riconobbero loro il brevetto di pasticciere e confettiere. Da sempre è un luogo in cui concedersi piccoli e preziosi piaceri come le caramelle dure o ripiene, i gianduiotti, i cremini, le praline alla nocciola, le gelatine, i confetti. Piccoli tesori dal gusto inconfondibile nei quali ritrovare tutta la sapienza della prestigiosa tradizione dolciaria torinese. Io ho ordinato il Caffè Baratti&Milano, un Caffè con Crema e Granella di Nocciole, Panna e Gocce di Cioccolato.

Poi una bella passeggiata nel centro storico fino a giungere in quella che io considero la parte più bella, quella che si affaccia sul fiume Po e porta al rigoglioso Parco del Valentino. Qui c’è un angolo romantico nel quale non si può non scattare una foto accanto a “I lampioni innamorati”, realizzati dal maestro artista-giardiniere Rodolfo Marasciuolo, che sembrano stringersi in un tenero abbraccio. Vicino si può visitare il Borgo Medievale, costruito nel 1884 in occasione dell’Esposizione generale italiana artistica e industriale, una fedele ricostruzione di un borgo del Basso Medioevo a cui si accede attraversando un ponte levatoio.

Turin is an imposing city whose buildings and streets seem to doze under the dust of time. There are corners and places that shine compared to the others suggesting a sumptuous past that must be dusted off. Under the arcades of Piazza Castello we find a historic cafeteria, Baratti & Milano,  founded in 1858 by two far-sighted Canavese confectioners, but it only in 1974 the Cafe moved where it is today. The Minister of the Royal House granted the use of the Royal Coat of Arms and recognized to Baratti and Milan the function of “Provveditori di S.M. il Re d’Italia e dei Reali Principi” and granted the faculty to use the Coat of Arms of the Sovereign in the shop sign, even Prince Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of Aosta, and Alfonso XII of Spain recognized them the patent of pastry chef and confectioner. It has always been a place to indulge in small and precious pleasures such as hard or stuffed candies, gianduiotti, cremini, hazelnut pralines, jellies, sugared almonds. Small treasures with an unmistakable taste in which to find all the wisdom of the prestigious Turin confectionery tradition. I ordered the Caffè Baratti & Milano, a Coffee with Cream and Chopped Hazelnuts, Cream and Chocolate Chips. Then a nice walk in the historic center until the part of the city that I consider the most beautiful part, the one that overlooks the river Po and leads to the lush Valentino Park. Here there is a romantic corner where you can not take a picture next to “The street lamps in love”, made by the master artist-gardener Rodolfo Marasciuolo, which seem to embrace in a tender embrace. Nearby you can visit the Medieval Village, built in 1884 on the occasion of the Italian Artistic and Industrial General Exhibition, a faithful reconstruction of a village of the Late Middle Ages which is accessed by crossing a drawbridge.
