The Concorso D’Eleganza Villa D’Este 2021

Il Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, lo splendido evento, amato dal jet set internazionale, che dalla sua prima edizione ci regala momenti magici, luoghi da favola e auto uniche, quest’anno si svolgerà dall’1 al 3 Ottobre. Questo evento dallo stile senza tempo è ricco di fascino, eleganza, bellezza e glamour. Cominciamo a segnarci questa data sul calendario!

Nell’attesa inebriamoci con alcune immagini che ci ricordano la sua lussuosa unicità. Pensate che la sua prima edizione si tenne nel 1929 e da allora ogni anno si arricchisce di contenuti, ospiti e auto d’eccezione. Tra gli eventi dedicati alle automobili d’epoca è l’unico nel quale si respira un’aria di autentica aristocrazia e questo lo rende probabilmente il più prestigioso tra i concorsi. Le due location straordinarie, il Grand Hotel Villa d’Este e Villa Erba, nelle quali si svolge, regalano all’evento quel tocco di esclusività particolare. Le 50 automobili che fanno bella mostra di sé sulle rive del lago di Como concorrono a vincere l’ambito premio “Best of Show”, il BMW Group Trophy. Questo premio è assegnato da una giuria di esperti sotto la supervisione del presidente Lorenzo Ramaciotti; mentre il pubblico decreta l’assegnazione della Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este. Un premio più recente che ha permesso l’ingresso di auto contemporanee, voluto nel 2002 da BMW Group, è quello dedicato alla categoria concept car.

Villa D’Este originariamente, cioè nel 1442, nacque come convento, e poi fu trasformato in residenza privata dal cardinale Tolomeo Gallio che fece demolire l’edificio originario per costruirne uno nuovo. Tra i suoi proprietari più illustri ci furono la ballerina del Teatro alla Scala, Vittoria Peluso, e la Principessa del Galles, Carolina Amalia di Brunswick. L’acquisto da parte della Principessa avvenne tramite un rogito in cui procuratore fu Alessandro Volta e con lei la dimora prese il nome di “Nuova villa d’Este”, in omaggio alle presunte origini estensi di Carolina. Nel 1968 passo nelle mani della Zarina di Russia Maria Feodorowna la quale vi organizzò feste fiabesche. Nel 1873, dopo qualche anno d’abbandono, vi fu costituita la Società Villa d’Este e l’edificio fu trasformato in un albergo di lusso con il nome di Villa d’Este.
Fu anche teatro di un celebre delitto, il delitto Bellentani o “delitto dell’ermellino”, la contessa Pia Bellentani vi uccise, nel corso di una festa nei lussuosi locali, il suo amante Carlo Sacchi, coprendo la pistola con la sua stola di ermellino.
Tra i personaggi celebri che vi soggiornarono possiamo citare Orson Welles, il Duca di Windsor, Giorgio Ricordi, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Verdi, Alfred Hitchcock, Rita Hayworth, i principi di Monaco, Elisabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Clarke Gable, Greta Garbo, Robert De Niro, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, John Kennedy, Gorbaciov, Churchill, Lo Scià di Persia.

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is loved by the international jet set and since its first edition offers us magical moments, fairytale places and unique cars; the splendid event this year will take place from the 1st to the 3rd of October 2021. This timeless event is full of charm, elegance, beauty and glamour. Let’s start marking this date on the calendar! In the meantime let’s remember it with some images which remind us its luxurious uniqueness. Its first edition was held in 1929 and every year it has been enriched with content, guests and exceptional cars. It is the only event dedicated to vintage cars in which we can breathe an air of authentic aristocracy and for this reason it is probably the most prestigious. The two extraordinary locations, the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este and Villa Erba, in which it takes place, give a touch of particular exclusivity. The 50 cars shown on the shores of Lake Como compete to win the “Best of Show” award, the BMW Group Trophy. This prize is awarded by a jury of experts under the supervision of President Lorenzo Ramaciotti; while the public decrees the award of the Villa d’Este Golden Cup. A more recent award that allowed the presence of contemporary cars, cerated in 2002 by BMW Group, is dedicated to the concept car category. Villa D’Este originally, in 1442, was a convent, and after was transformed into a private residence by the Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio who demolished the original building to build a new one. Among its most illustrious owners were the ballerina of La Scala Theatre, Victoria Peluso, and the Princess of Wales, Caroline Amalie of Brunswick.  During this purchase there were Alessandro Volta, like the prosecutor, and the Villa was named “Nuova villa d’Este”, in homage to the origins of Carolina. In 1968 was bought by the Tsarina Maria Feodorowna who organized fairytale parties there. In 1873, after a few years of neglect, the Villa d’Este Society was established there and the building was transformed into a luxury hotel and was named Villa d’Este. It was also the scene of a famous crime, the crime Bellentani or “crime of the ermine”, the countess Pia Bellentani, during a party in the luxurious premises, killed her lover Carlo Sacchi, covering the gun with her ermine stole.
