San Valentino

Nel giorno di San Valentino, di tradizione, si festeggiano gli innamorati, oggi la festa ha assunto per molti un significato più ampio, divenendo la festa dell’amore.

Nell’antica Roma, già dal quarto secolo a.C., il 15 febbraio si festeggiava la rinascita della natura e con essa la sessualità umana nelle sue forme più ancestrali; considerata inappropriata questa festa nel 496 d.C. fu spostata da Papa Gelasio al 14 febbraio e trasformata in festività dedicata all’amore romantico, sotto la protezione del santo Valentino. A lui infatti sono legate alcune leggende che vedono protagonista l’amore. Una di queste narra che grazie a lui due innamorati, a cui portò in dono una rosa, si riconciliarono.

One of these tells that Saint Valentine brought a rose to two lovers, and they reconciled.
