Uno degli eventi più attesi e glamour del panorama internazionale si è da poco concluso. Negli occhi ancora le imagini i questo evento divenuto famoso anche per gli outfit delle signore che abbinano sapientemente ad essi l’immancabile cappello. Quest’anno è stata un’edizione ancora più speciale perché si è celebrato il 200° anniversario della prima Royal Procession, la parata con cui la famiglia reale raggiunge in carrozza l’ippodromo di Ascot partendo dal Castello di Windsor. La tradizione fu iniziata da Re Giorgio IV nel 1825, il sovrano volle il suo arrivo un momento particolarmente solenne.

Per la prima volta è stato ospitato il The Queen’s Reading Room, l’iniziativa benefica e letteraria fondata dalla Regina Camilla affinché “… i piaceri della lettura possano amplificare quelli dell’equitazione…”. La Regina ha indossato per la prima volta un gioiello dal grande valore storico e affettivo, una spilla di diamanti e smeraldi molto amata dalla regina Elisabetta risalente al 1911; fu realizzato con i cosiddetti smeraldi Cambridge su iniziativa della regina Mary.

A vincere la competizione James Doyle, il fantino di Cambridge. Si è fatta notare l’assenza di Kate Middleton.

One of the most anticipated and glamorous events on the international scene has recently ended. This year was even more special because it marked the 200th anniversary of the first Royal Procession, the parade by which the royal family reaches Ascot Racecourse by carriage starting from Windsor Castle. It was hosted for the first time by The Queen’s Reading Room, the charitable and literary initiative founded by Queen Camilla so that “…the pleasures of reading might amplify those of riding….” The Queen wore for the first time a jewel of great historical and sentimental value, a diamond and emerald brooch much loved by Queen Elizabeth dating back to 1911; it was made from so-called Cambridge emeralds at the initiative of Queen Mary.
James Doyle, the Cambridge jockey, won the competition. Kate Middleton’s absence was notable.
