Hommage à Dante: Enfer, Purgatoire, Paradis

Dante ha descritto un viaggio nel mondo ultraterreno che dall’Inferno ci porta al Paradiso passando per il Purgatorio. Due importanti artisti francesi, Anne e Patrick Poirier, hanno voluto portare la loro interpretazione della Divina Commedia a Milano. Le opere che rispettivamente rappresentano le tre cantiche sono state collocate in tre luoghi differenti: l’Inferno a Casa degli Artisti, il Purgatorio alla Galleria Fumagalli e il Paradiso presso la sede di Antonini Milano a Palazzo Borromeo.

Questo progetto nasce durante i mesi di isolamento imposti dalla pandemia, momento che ha portato a una profonda riflessione ed espressione artistica. Il dramma dell’Inferno è illustrato in una sorta di lungo fumetto nel quale ci sono solo due colori il rosso e il nero e non vi è soluzione di continuità. Il Purgatorio ha un’immagine più selvaggia, pittoresca e multicolore che si estrinseca in opere che danno l’idea della sospensione. Il Paradiso è qualcosa di più astratto, immateriale, simbolico e immenso e viene espresso attraverso opere che riflettono anche fenomeni luminosi e atmosferici.

Dante described a journey into the otherworldly world that takes us from Hell to Heaven passing through Purgatory. Two important French artists, Anne and Patrick Poirier, wanted to bring their interpretation of the Divine Comedy to Milan. The works that respectively represent the three canticles have been placed in three different places: Hell at the House of Artists, Purgatory at the Galleria Fumagalli and Paradise at the headquarters of Antonini Milano at Palazzo Borromeo. This project was born during the months of isolation imposed by the pandemic, a moment that led to a deep reflection and artistic expression. The drama of Hell is illustrated in a sort of long comic in which there are only two colors, red and black and there is no solution of continuity. Purgatory has a wilder, more picturesque and multicolored image expressed in works that give the idea of suspension. Paradise is something more abstract, immaterial, symbolic and immense and is expressed through works that also reflect luminous and atmospheric phenomena. I felt more akin to the atmosphere of Paradise; what about you? The exhibition was curated by Lóránd Hegyi and Angela Madesani.
