The place where the sun first rises. Otranto is a white pearl in the beautiful region of Puglia. I was greeted by the majestic castle commissioned by Ferdinand I of Aragon; from here, narrow alleyways branch off, dotted with little shops with sparkling shop windows. At its heart lies the cathedral, which houses a huge mosaic depicting the Tree of Life. After enjoying a spot of shopping, I decided to stop off on the terrace of the Hotel Palazzo Papaleo, a historic noble residence dating back to the 19th century. This palace, which has belonged to the Papaleo family since 1800, has been transformed into a refined, charming 5-star hotel following a careful restoration that has preserved its authentic character. On the top floor, there is a terrace offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the sea and the rooftops of the historic centre; here you can enjoy an aperitif, have dinner or simply sip a drink.
