Bentley Mulsanne

La prima Mulsanne fu presentata a Pebble Beach nel 2009 e da allora la vita di questa straordinaria automobile è stata costellata di trionfi. L’ultimo suo modello è l’esclusiva 6.75 Edition di Mulliner. Non appena gli ultimi esemplari verranno terminati, il testimone, in qualità di modello di punta, passerà al suo degno successore, la nuova Flying Spur, recensita come “la nuova migliore auto del mondo”. Per celebrare questi 10 anni di successi è stato realizzato un suggestivo film ‘THE GRAND BENTLEY.

La grandezza di questa berlina di lusso è dettata dall’esperienza di ineguagliabili maestri artigiani che ne hanno sempre realizzato a mano ogni parte nello stabilimento di Crewe, qui infatti questa vettura viene progettata, sviluppata e realizzata fin dagli schizzi iniziali. Ogni esemplare richiede oltre 400 ore di lavoro di cui circa 150 sono dedicate alla creazione dei sontuosi interni in pelle.

Bentley ha voluto rendere omaggio a tutti coloro che negli anni hanno contribuito a rendere il marchio quello che è oggi e lo ha fatto dando voce ad alcuni di loro. Crispin Marshfield, membro del team di Exterior Design, è tra coloro che assiste al processo di trasformazione di uno schizzo a mano libera in un modello in argilla ed infine in uno in metallo super performante.  Considera la Mulsanne come un’icona di moderna esclusività. L’ingegnere Peter Guest, l’ha reputata, fin dagli inizi, un progetto estremamente ambizioso, frutto di una nuova e innovativo concezione. Il team degli ingegneri ha lavorato a stretto contatto con quello degli artigiani per affrontare e vincere una sfida enorme.

Per Ian Johnson, uno dei molti artigiani dell’azienda, la Mulsanne rappresenta la fine di un’era, è la combinazione perfetta tra l’eredità Bentley e la transizione verso il futuro. Rob Thompson, Paint Shop, ricorda alcuni spettacolari colori realizzati su misura, come ad esempio il Liquid Mercury, e alcune particolari finiture in raso. John Fisher, responsabile del Wood Shop, lavora nel luogo in cui vengono realizzate vere e proprie sculture, modellando i legni più pregiati. Lavorazioni che affascinano e ipnotizzano chi ha la fortuna di visitare la fabbrica.

Tim Seipel, parte del team che si dedica al motore, ha una vasta esperienza di lavoro sull’iconico V8 ‘L-Series’ da 6,75 litri, una vera icona entrata in produzione per la prima volta nel 1959. Donna Morrey gestisce le operazioni di assemblaggio e pensa che Bentley con questa vettura abbia raggiunto il massimo del lusso. Hans Holzgartner del reparto Marketing afferma che questa abbia rappresentato la vettura che i clienti desideravano veramente, non più solo una macchina, ma un’opera d’arte. E’ il culmine perfetto dei primi 100 anni di lavoro di Benltey.

The first Mulsanne was unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2009 and since then the life of this extraordinary car has been studded with triumphs. Its latest model is the exclusive 6.75 Edition by Mulliner. When the last cars of this model will bee finished, the Mulsanne’s time as the pinnacle modern Bentley will draw a close and the baton will be handed to the new Flying Spur, a worthy successor, having recently been reviewed as “the new best car in the world”. To celebrate these 10 years of success, an evocative film ‘THE GRAND BENTLEY’ has been made. The exclusivity of Bentley is determined by the experience of able master craftsmen who have always handcrafted every part of every cars in the Crewe factory, here each car is designed, developed and made from the initial sketches. Each model requires over 400 hours of work, about 150 of which are dedicated to the creation of the sumptuous leather interiors. Bentley wanted to pay tribute to all people who over the years have helped the brand to be what it is today and did it by giving voice to some of them. Crispin Marshfield, a member of the Exterior Design team, was the witness of the process of transforming a freehand sketch into a full scale clay model and finally into a super-performing metal one. He consider the Mulsanne as an icon of modern exclusivity. The engineer Peter Guest, has ever considered it an extremely ambitious project, the result of a new and innovative concept. The engineering team worked closely with the craftsmen to take on and overcome a huge challenge. For Ian Johnson, Body in White, the Mulsanne represents the end of an era, it’s the perfect combination of Bentley legacy and transition to the future. Rob Thompson, Paint Shop, remember some spectacular custom-made colors, such as the Liquid Mercury, and the bespoke satin finishes. John Fisher, Wood Shop, works in the place where real sculptures are made, shaping the finest woods. These works fascinate and hypnotize those lucky people who could visit the factory. Tim Seipel, part of the engine team, has extensive experience of working on the iconic 6.75-litre ‘L-Series’ V8 engine, a true icon put into production back in 1959. Donna Morrey manages the operations of the Mulsanne’s assembly processes and thinks Bentley has reached the top of luxury with this car. Hans Holzgartner, Marketing, says Mulsanne has always represented the car that customers really wanted, not just a car, but a work of art.
